Maybe it's the proximity to the Arctic Circle of the studio in which it was recorded that makes the ambience of this EP so austere and unforgiving. Or it could simply be that Lundin Oil enjoys lacerating eardrums. Either way, North Gate sounds less like techno than it does the result of placing contact mics on the noisiest parts of a gigantic steam turbine. Hostile isn't the word.
